Google Ads or Kontera - Which Kind?

Postby HookII » Thu Feb 07, 2008 9:49 am

We freeforums.org (FF) hosted forums will now be having Ads on our forums. :(
We DO have the choice of 2 ways they are displayed.
 Kontera (In-text blue linked ads) or  AdSense (Blocks of Ads on your forum)
Which way do YOU Prefer??? :? (the lesser of 2 evils LOL  )
OR - Will you go to Pay to remove ads or go to Advanced hosting?

MORE INFO ...

It sucks that we have to have ads now but Oh Well!
Which kind do you like best?
The banner ads at top of the screen or the "linked" ads built into the text?
Once everything is rolled out you will get a choice of either Adsense or Konterra inline ads.

Q) Why do I have to have adverts on my forum?
A) Please read our news post at FF - HERE  http://forum.freeforums.org/viewtopic.php?t=28803

Q) Can I turn the adverts off?
A) Yes, we offer ad-removal starting at $4.95/month. Depending on the forum size, there will either be a one time fee ($4.95/month) or a CPM (cost per pageviews) rate. Both can be purchased via the "Upgrades" page in your admin panel.

Q) Can I have Kontera (the blue links) instead of AdSense?
A) Yes, with the beta period ending we will be making neccessary changes to the program and launch it shortly. When released, you will have a choice between AdSense and Kontera ads.

Q) How can I put my AdSense ads on my forum?
A) We are currently working with the Google AdSense team to make this possible. We expect them to approve the program within the next few weeks. After that time, you can make money from ads on your site.

Q) I don't see any ads.
A) As a courtesy to the forum owner you will not have ads when logged into your main admin account.

You will be able to choose between Kontera (In-text) or AdSense (Blocks of Ads on your forum).

If we must have ads at all, I prefer the Google ads.
They do not seem as intrusive to me.

It's a shame they have decided to go back on there word so much that you can't trust anything they say.

Q) I don't see any ads.
A) As a courtesy to the forum owner you will not have ads when logged into your main admin account.

WRONG, something they changed (now even the owners get the ads)

For those profoundly against sponsors of any kind we have a no-ad option available. We will offer full ad-removal services starting at $4.95/month, which will remove all ads from your forum.

WRONG, if you have an active forum it is a "Pay per Pageview" system so they can suck more money out of you

Over the next few weeks we will be launching the revenue sharing program that lets you use your AdSense code on your forum to make money.

When?!? I haven't received a cent.

They have also stated that the ads would relate to the content of the site (I run a military related site and almost all of my ads related directly to that and the rest were indirectly related). This was the case up until today when NONE of my ads even remotely relate to the site content. AND on top of that they have added talking ads and blinking ads which are even more intrusive (not to mention dangerous for the flashing ones if someone has a tenancy toward epileptic seizures).

May I ask is it because you use FF instead of IE? If I use IE, I see the ads, but when I use FF, I see no ads of any kind on any forum I visit plus my own.

I use Firefox and yesterday, when I logged into my site, I had ads. I have since switched to Kontera only and installed a program on my computers to block all Kontera ads (so no more ads for me now). It may just be a sporadic thing (other people have experienced the same thing (according to comments made on the support forum) and others (like Hook) have not.

I have FF but I usually use IE.
I haven't tried FF looking at my forums or any for that matter.
I'll have to see!

Adsense is the better of the two in my opinion, depending on the ads that are being shown. Naturally you would not want inappropriate ads displaying on your boards as it would mean you may as well turn your members away.

Just my point of view
Cheers

I agree, the AdSense ads are better and as for certain ads turning members away, I think that's a given.

To be honest, it never bothered me to see ads at a site I visited, but, now that I have FF and its ad block 2 installed I do not see any ads at all and do not miss them. I still use IE (it has always been a pain in my "ars" with all its glitches and things) on occasion, but, mainly use FF as my main browser. It is faster loading pages, sites and easier for me to use.

This is just my opinion, take it as it is meant please.

The Knotera ads don't exist as an option if you go to phpBB3 with FF.
